STORY WORK

We were written not only to hear and tell stories, but we are a story.

~Dan Allender~

Attachment research informs us that our earliest relationships, especially those within our family of origin, can shape how we view ourselves, connect with others, and impact our constructs of deity. Each of us carries stories of both beauty and harm. The wounds we experience—whether within our families, relationships, or communities—shape our understanding of the world. Often, these experiences lead us to develop protective patterns and coping strategies that once helped us endure but may no longer serve us well.

Story work offers an invitation to gently explore these places of woundedness with curiosity, compassion, and courage. By naming and making sense of our experiences, we can begin to understand how our past continues to impact our present. As we tend to the parts of our stories that have been marked by pain, we create space for greater healing, freedom, and connection.

Story work allows us to grieve… and to hope. It enables us to move beyond simply desiring the absence of pain or struggle and towards living more fully into who we were created to be.

My formation in story work was developed primary through The Allender Center as a participant in narrative focused trauma care training, through training in interpersonal neurobiology at The Mindsight Institute, and in community involvement through the Center for Being Known.
