HEALING POETRY
The poet William Stafford was asked once… “When did you become a poet?”
Stafford replied…
“That’s the wrong question. The right question is, ‘When did you stop being a poet?’ We’re all born poets.”
Poetry as a Tool for Wellness (PTW) is an eight-week poetry group curriculum consisting of 90-minute sessions. Similar to other expressive art therapies, this program focuses on the process of connection rather than the final product or craft. PTW is designed for everyone, from seasoned poets to those who have yet to discover their poetic voice. It has been successfully implemented in diverse contexts, including hospitals, community centers, places of worship, rehabilitation centers, and correctional facilities. I am both a certified PTW Facilitator and a certified PTW Facilitator Trainer through The Institute for Poetic Medicine.
I am also trained in healing poetry for survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse. Trauma often leaves experiences that are difficult to put into words. Poetry offers a unique pathway to reconnect with emotions, reclaim personal voice, and discover meaning beyond pain. Through guided writing prompts, poetry, reflection, and creative expression healing poetry groups invite participants to explore with others in a supportive and brave space. Sharing is always optional.
If you have a group interested in participating in an eight-week virtual poetry wellness group, or if you are interested in being trained in peer facilitation of the PTW curriculum, fill out the contact form or email me at info@katiekrason.com.
I do not yet know what I carry in my heart, but I trust it will emerge as I write.
